a)  Should I apply?
Dasra Social-Impact is for organizations that are committed to scaling their impact. We strongly encourage applications from CEOs or senior decision-makers from organizations that meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • Legally registered as an organization and operate as a social enterprise (for profit, non-profit or hybrid model) in India
  • Operating for at least 1 year
  • Current annual revenue is more than INR 50 lakhs
  • Belief that the organization has the potential to be at least 10 times its current size within 5 years
  • CEO and management team open to recieving management support
  • Can speak and write English and have basic computer skills
  • CEO or senior decision-maker can commit to 3 week long residential workshops and at least an additional 10 hours per month for 9 months to complete the course


b)  Guidelines Dasra

Carefully read this guide Don’t jump straight to the application form. Instead, make sure you have fully read and understood all elements of this document; timelines, suitability, cost, commitment levels etc.
Investigate Social-Impact alumni This will be the 5th batch of participants on Dasra Social-Impact. Investigate the background of previous alumni to better understand whether you are suitable.
Start the application early Don’t wait until the last minute. To give yourself the best possible chance of acceptance, with the best possible application, we suggest starting the process by 1 June. This will enable you to give the application the appropriate thought and time for revision.

The ability to forward plan and manage deadlines are also important when scaling an organization.
Be Specific Don’t use vague generalities. Provide clear examples, use data to support your positions and try to connect what you do with your stated goals.
Be Succinct It is important to be able to easily and quickly present your organization and ideas, and in a format that can readily be understood. Word limits on the application are there to try and help you do this. So stick to the limits.
Welcome Challenge Find people who can read your draft application and provide feedback on grammar and content. Can you convince them that your organization is feasible and can be scaled? This ability to welcome and accept challenge will also be needed during the program, where your strategy and plans will be tested.



c) Application process

How to Apply To apply to the Dasra Social-Impact program please:
  • Download the word application from at the bottom of this page
  • Complete the form keeping in mind the word limits
  • Obtain your three references
  • Send the completed form to

Application Deadline The deadline for applications for the 2010/2011 program is 30 June 2010. Space is limited and the program will be filled as soon as we receive the number of high-quality applications, so please apply early.
Selection Process
  • A selection committee will review all the applications and contact shortlisted organizations by 31 July. In reviewing and shortlisting organizations, the committee will look at track record, market potential, demand for products and services, capital efficiency, management and systems and processes.
  • Shortlisted organizations will be interviewed, either in person or by teleconference. Organizations selected through this process will be notified by 31st August.
  • Selected organizations will be required to pay the below participation fee (including deposit) by 15th September.
Participation Fee The course will cost the organization INR 50,000 up front, plus travel costs, with an additional deposit of INR 25,000 as a refundable deposit, if Dasra Social-Impact is unsuccessful in mobilizing funding for your organization. This year Dasra has raised funding for 15 organizations on the program, totaling
$2 million.



d) Application form
Unfortunately you won’t be able to save your answers as you go through the form. We strongly recommend that you print off the questions first, save your answers separately, and get them right before you fill in the form.
