Malnutrition - Slums, 2011
The third Dasra Giving Circle, which focussed on reducing malnutrition in urban slums was launched on the 23 October 2010
The Dasra Giving Circle members chose to support a Mumbai based non-profit organization, SNEHA (Society for Nutrition Education and Health Action) who will use the funding to dramatically expand a nutrition and healthcare program in Mumbai. SNEHA focuses its work on addressing the health, childcare and nutritional needs of the slum communities of Dharavi, Santacruz, Ghatkopar and Kandivali. SNEHA works with slum communities and the public healthcare system to improve underprivileged mother's and children's health and nutrition. SNEHA is currently scaling the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai's (MCGM) health and nutrition program, AAHAR, so that it covers 300 day care centres (anganwadis) and 300,000 people.

The Giving Circle was launched alongside Dasra's report Nourishing our Future: Tackling Child Malnutrition in Urban Slums. Nourishing our Future is the result of a four month research process into the issues and challenges surrounding child health and nutrition in India’s urban slum populations. The report identifies the five cornerstones of preventative and curative care and analyzes the interventions of 10 non profit organizations working to scale solutions in Mumbai and New Delhi’s slums.
15% of the total funding amount will go to Dasra, who will be giving 250 days of management assistance to the selected organization over the next three years. Click here for more information
