Advisory Services - Technology

The effective use of technology promotes increased global efficiency. Businesses use technology to streamline and scale up operations. Non profit organizations also benefit from integrating technological innovations into their work and using them to help further realize their mission. The ability to track data in a reliable, efficient manner enables non profit organizations to measure results achieved in serving their beneficiaries. It also helps them to develop macro-level perspectives that will enable the non profit to expand capacity. Dasra has responded to this need by designing and developing systems, training personnel and helping non profit organizations adopt technology-based solutions that increase everyday efficiency.

Prerana – How Technology can help Prevent the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

In Mumbai’s red light district, the NGO Prerana is working to sever the chain of prostitution and exploitation from one generation to the next by protecting the children of sex workers from the flesh trade. For years, its staff has kept thorough case histories for each of its beneficiaries in hand-written notebooks, but the maintenance of this system was tedious and inefficient, preventing Prerana from making the best use of its data. Dasra assessed Prerana’s needs and connected the organization to a donor and designer who created a computerized record-keeping system. Once the staff was trained to use the system, they were able to save an enormous amount of time and energy, and through Dasra’s efforts, able to focus on the most pressing issues facing their target community.

CiviCRM - Harnessing Technology to Further Social Change

Many small-scale non profit organizations are limited in their capacity to provide top quality services because of their outdated or ineffective technologies. CiviCRM, a software system developed by engineers in U.S.A., Poland, and India, is a cutting-edge IT system with the potential to help non profit organizations and other small organizations worldwide. CiviCRM is an open-source platform used for constituent relationship management. This freely-downloadable software allows non-profit organizations and other organizations to record and manage information about various stakeholders including volunteers, activists, donors, employees, clients, and vendors. It also makes it possible to track and execute donations, transactions, conversations, events or any type of correspondence, and to store all this information in one, easily accessible and efficient database system.
